Drum Filter

Christin Struppert Head of Marketing

The TFB drum filter is designed for fine dust filtration at high air volumes. The combined unit of TFB drum filter and TVM prefilter is referred to as TFC and filters not only fine dust but also larger particles such as fibers from the (primary) air stream. Unlike the LTG Compact Drum Filter CDF, the TFB drum filter consists of a single large filter drum in various diameter whose length can be modified modularly. This stationary filter drum is flowed through from the inside out and continuously extracted via suction nozzles on the inside.

To cover the entire filter surface, the nozzles perform both a rotational and a superimposed translational movement. The separated and extracted dust is fed by a conveying fan in the secondary airflow to a separator. All functional components and drive elements are located within the housing on the clean air side, which contributes to the reliability and operational safety of the system.

Drum filter for high air volumes

The automatic, internally loaded drum filter TFB / TFC meets the key practical requirements in a very high air volume range of 20,000 to 270,000 m³/h and a material throughput of up to 250 kg/h:

  • High filtration performance
  • High air permeability
  • Precise adaptation to the application, e.g. through modular design
  • Low-maintenance operation

Advantages of our drum filters

LTG drum filters have proven themselves for years as low-maintenance fine filtration units across a wide range of industrial sectors. Their long-standing tradition and robust construction ensure maximum reliability, safety, and availability. They offer the following advantages:

Reduction of moving mass

LTG drum filters feature a design without a rotating drum, significantly reducing the mass of moving parts. This design choice minimizes mechanical wear and increases operational safety and the service life of the filtration units.

Clean filter chamber and easy maintenance

The inward-to-outward airflow ensures a clean filter chamber, allowing the filter to be installed directly in production areas. In addition, the drive unit is easily accessible and located on the clean-air side, simplifying maintenance work.

Regenerative filter unit

A key benefit of our drum filters is their regenerative filtration capability, which allows continuous cleaning. This cleaning process takes place at low pressure, preventing pressure fluctuations in the system.

Energy efficiency and low-pressure loss

LTG drum filters are designed for energy-efficient operation. Optimized airflow and low-pressure drop result in reduced energy consumption by the extraction fan—lowering operating expenses and reducing environmental impact.

Modular design and flexible adaptation

Due to their modular construction, our drum filters can be tailored precisely to customer-specific requirements and on-site conditions. This flexibility enables an exact adjustment to the total airflow and saves space through the integrated pre-filter disk.

High-quality filter media

Our drum filters use various proven filter media that offer high dust separation efficiency with relatively low resistance and long service life. These media can be individually selected to suit each process and ensure optimal results.

Maintenance-friendly design

The compact framework design makes the filters easy to install and maintain. The filter chamber remains accessible for inspection during operation, eliminating the need to shut down the system. This allows for continuous monitoring and maintenance without interrupting operations.

Flexible drum filters for all industries and applications

Our drum filters are suitable for the fine filtration of dust and fibres across all relevant industrial sectors. Since the drum filter can easily be equipped with a pre-filter disk, both coarse and fine filtration can be carried out using a single filter unit. Thanks to the modular design of our filters, they can be precisely adapted to customer requirements and on-site conditions. For our TF drum filter, this is done by adjusting the drum’s diameter and length. Depending on the application, the ideal combination of pre-filter and fine filter media is selected from a wide range of proven materials. These can also be easily exchanged if the filtration requirements change later on, if application should change.

Service for our drum filters

The skeletal frame design of our drum filters and the integration of the pre-filter disk into the housing enable a particularly compact construction, allowing the filtration system to be installed even in tight spatial conditions. Our experts develop custom solutions tailored to the challenges of each individual customer and handle commissioning directly on site. We also provide maintenance and service after installation and offer consulting for further optimization of your filtration system. Our service level is always adapted to the specific needs of our customers.

Low-maintenance drum filters by LTG

If our customers prefer to handle maintenance themselves, that’s no problem. LTG drum filters are designed for easy and cost-efficient maintenance in every aspect. The regenerative filtration unit significantly reduces maintenance requirements and helps maintain consistent filtration performance. The entire filter structure is designed to prevent dust from accumulating between the pre-filter and the main drum. To further enhance reliability, the drive system is always located on the clean air side in our models. Inspection of the drum filter chamber is possible at any time during operation, with no need to shut down the system.

Frequently asked questions about drum filters

How does a drum filter work?

In a drum filter, air flows from the inside of the drum to the outside. Dust particles are retained by the filter media and removed through suction nozzles. A conveying fan then transports the particles to a separator. The collected material can then be compacted and disposed of or recovered for recycling, depending on the process.

What types of drum filters are there?

In process air technology, a basic distinction is made between traditional drum filters with a large cylindrical filter chamber and compact filters. Compact filters consist of several smaller filter chambers arranged side by side, resulting in a particularly space-saving design with high filtration performance.

What is a drum filter?

A drum filter consists of a modular filter drum, optionally with an integrated pre-filter. These filters are primarily used for fine dust filtration, but they can also remove larger particles from the air thanks to the pre-filter.
